Do I need to create an account?
No. The basic version works without any signup — open the page and start counting. Account creation is optional and only needed for cross-device cloud sync (start counting on your phone, continue on your laptop).
Is Tally Counter App really free?
Yes, free forever. There is no premium tier, no per-counter limit, no monthly cap, and no watermarks. The site is supported by minimal display ads. All features (multi-counter, view modes, dark mode, full-screen, offline, sync) are available to every user.
How many counters can I add?
Unlimited. Most users have 3-15 counters at once; some power users have 30+. Grid view scales to your device screen size.
Can I label each counter?
Yes. Tap the label area above any counter to give it a name (e.g., 'Maya - Participation', 'Northern Cardinal', 'Defects: Cosmetic'). Labels persist between sessions.
Does my data sync across devices?
With a free account, yes — your counters sync to the cloud and appear on every device you sign in to. Updates from one device appear on others within a few seconds. Without an account, counters save in your browser's local storage on that one device only.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Tally Counter App uses local browser storage by default and continues working without internet. If you're signed in for cloud sync, counts upload to your account when your device reconnects.
How do I reset a counter?
Tap the reset button on the counter you want to reset. Resetting one counter does not affect any of your other counters. There's also an undo button if you accidentally tap one too many times.
Can I undo an accidental tap?
Yes. The undo button reverts the last tap on any counter. Useful when you over-count in fast-tap scenarios.
What view modes are available?
Three view modes: Dual (two counters side-by-side, large tap targets), Grid (all counters visible at once in a tile layout), and List (compact vertical list). Switch between them based on your screen size and counting density.
Is there a dark mode?
Yes. Toggle between light and dark themes in the navigation. The app respects your system theme preference by default but can be overridden.
What keyboard shortcuts are available?
Space or Enter to increment the active counter. R to reset. Arrow keys to navigate between counters. Numbers 1-9 to jump to a specific counter. F to toggle full-screen mode.
Can I share my counts with others?
Real-time multi-user shared counters (where multiple people contribute to the same counter live) are in development for late 2026. Today, with a free account, your counters sync across all YOUR devices but aren't shared with other accounts.
Does the counter make a sound when I tap?
Sound is optional. Enable it in Settings if you want audible click feedback per tap (useful for counting without watching the screen). Vibration is also available as an alternative for silent environments.
What's the difference between Dual view and Grid view?
Dual view shows exactly 2 counters with large tap targets — ideal for head-to-head counting (Team A vs Team B, made vs attempted shots, entry vs exit). Grid view shows multiple counters in a tile layout — better for tracking many categories at once (multiple students, species, SKUs).
Can I export my counts as a CSV file?
CSV export is planned for late 2026. In the meantime, screenshot the Grid view for a snapshot record.
Is there an iPhone or Android app?
No native apps yet. The web app works on all devices with a modern browser (iOS Safari, Android Chrome, desktop Chrome/Firefox/Safari/Edge). For frequent use on a phone, add the page to your home screen (Share → Add to Home Screen) for one-tap launch like a native app.
How is my data stored?
Counter data is stored in your browser's local storage by default — never transmitted to our servers unless you sign in for cloud sync. With cloud sync enabled, counter labels and values are stored encrypted on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I delete my account and all data?
Yes. Email usamalatif25@gmail.com with your account email. We process deletion requests within 7 days. Local browser storage can be cleared via your browser's settings (Clear browsing data > Cookies and other site data).
Is Tally Counter App accessible (screen readers, keyboard-only)?
We work toward WCAG 2.2 AA compliance. Keyboard shortcuts work; screen reader compatibility is in active testing. If you find an accessibility barrier, please email us — these get high priority.
Can I use this for [my specific use case]?
Probably yes. Tally Counter App handles any tally-based counting — see our use case pages for sports, education, research, retail, manufacturing, plus dedicated pages for people counting, attendance, and habit tracking. If you have an unusual scenario, email us.
