A number counter keeps a running total that you change one step at a time. Tally Counter App's number counter is free and works in any browser: tap to add one, use the minus button to subtract one, undo the last change, or reset to zero. You can run several number counters at once and label each, so one screen can hold a stock count, a headcount and a score. Counts are saved in your browser on that device between sessions and work offline. There is no signup and no install.
Use Cases
Keeping a running total
Anything where the number goes up one at a time: items packed, pages read, laps swum, visitors in a queue.
Counting down
Use the minus button to count what is left: seats remaining, tickets to sell, tasks still to finish, items still to pick.
Counting in and out together
Add when something comes in and subtract when it leaves to keep a live figure, such as people currently in a room.
Several numbers at once
Label separate counters for different totals and keep them on one screen instead of juggling tabs or paper.
Teaching counting
A large visible number that changes by one is a clear aid for counting practice in a classroom or at home.
Quick checks against a target
Count toward a number you were given, such as 100 items to a box, and see at a glance how far along you are.

When a number counter beats a calculator or a notes app
If you are counting things as you see them, the cost of each update matters. A calculator needs you to type the operation and press equals. A notes app needs you to edit text. A number counter needs one tap. Over a hundred updates that difference is the gap between keeping up with what you are counting and falling behind it.
The other advantage is the undo. When you mis-tap on a calculator you often have to retype the whole sum. Here the last change is reverted on its own and the running total stays correct.
Counting up, counting down, and counting both ways
Counting up answers 'how many so far'. Counting down answers 'how many left'. Many real jobs need both: a room has a number of people in it that goes up when someone arrives and down when someone leaves. Using add and minus on one counter gives you that live figure directly instead of subtracting two totals at the end.
For anything you will need to report, keep separate labeled counters for each total as well, such as total arrivals, total departures and current count. The three numbers cross-check each other, which catches a missed tap before it becomes a wrong report.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can this count down as well as up?
Yes. Use the minus button to subtract one each time. You can also set up a counter, add to reach your starting figure, then subtract as items are used or removed.
Can I start from a number other than zero?
You can build up to any starting number by tapping, and reset returns a counter to zero. If you need a large starting figure, check the counter's settings for how to set the value directly.
How is this different from a calculator?
A calculator is for arithmetic. A number counter is for tracking a total that changes one step at a time, with one tap per step and an undo for mistakes. It is faster for counting things as you see them.
Can I keep more than one number?
Yes. Add as many labeled counters as you need and keep each total separate, for example one for stock in, one for stock out.
Does the number save if I close the page?
Counts are saved in your browser's local storage on that device. They do not sync to other devices, and clearing browser data removes them.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account and no usage limit.
